Batangas is blessed with eyeful of discoveries. The province is bestowed with a rich biodiversity because of the presence of many seaside towns, wide stretch of white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, a rich flora and fauna, and mountains to trek – such wonderful things to be proud and taken care of.

The surrounding mountain ranges and the famous Taal Volcano are ideal for trekking, climbing, and doing other adventure activities.

Here are the natural and scenic delights of Batangas:

1. Taal Lake and Volcano

Found in the crater of an extinct volcano, Taal Volcano is considered the smallest volcano in the world. The volcano is situated on an 8.8-kilometer islet and surrounded by a 27-kilometer-long lake.

2. Mount Maculot, Cuenca Batangas

The mountain once served as the last stronghold of the Japanese forces during World War II. Evidence of this battle are found inside the tunnels built the Japanese during the war. Now, Mt. Maculot has become a favorite destination for hikers an trekkers.

3. Matabungkay Beach, Lian Batangas

This two-kilometer white sand beach faces the South China Sea. Swimming, boating, yachting, fishing and skin diving are some of the most commonly enjoyed activities in the area.

4. Submarine Garden, Lobo Batangas

It is called a submarine garden because corals near the shore can be clearly seen during early morning when the water is clear and the tide is low.

5. Munting Buhagin Beach, Nasugbu Batangas

This small cove has become a favorite haunt with locals and tourists,and offers water enthusiasts with a fine stretch of powdery white sand beach fringed with foamy blue water.

6. Natipunan Beach, Nasugbu Batangas

Natipuan Beach bears a resemblance to Munting Buhangin,with off-shore sands and refreshing waters. It is located in another cove which is similarly accessible.

7. Sombrero Island

Resembling a hat, the shoreline extends long way underwater. Gorgonians, black coral, shells, turtles, rays, grunts, jacks, snappers, and a great variety of soft corals are scattered all over the place. Currents are normally strong during the full moon.

8. Anilao, Mabini

A world famous dive destination, the coastal village of Anilao has many sites worthy of any discriminating diver: The Cathedral – a giant rock formation that looks like an underwater amphitheater,home to throngs of eager fish waiting to be fed by visiting divers; Caban Cove – home to a plenty of small tropical fish and an interesting drop off good for shallow dives; and Layag-Layag Point – famous for its crystal clear water and coral heeds teeming with marine life.

9. Laiya Aplaya and Hugon Beach, San Juan Batangas

San Juan town is fast becoming known as a premier beach area in Batangas with its sparkling stretch of white sand beach. Many dive resorts have lined up at the seaside village. Hugon Beach, with its sea floor covered with white sand and smooth rocks, is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. San Juan offers divers the best coral reefs and rich colonies of marine life offshore.

10. Talisay, Batangas

One of the major jump-off points to Taal Volcano island,  the town of Talisay has a number of resorts and a yacht club which facilities for sailing, kayaking, boat rental, and camping tents or in native cabanas by the lake.

11. Verde Island, Passage

Described as the center of the world’s marine biodiversity by a group of researchers, Verde Island Passage is an underwater wonderland.The area is characterized by spectacular reef formations of more than 300 species of corals, and underwater rock canyons that host nearly 60 percent of the world’s shorefish species.

12. Calatagan Peninsula

It is a popular weekend retreat of Manila’s well-to-do, who frequent the resorts and vacation homes lining the scenic coast. There is also a small market where fresh seafood can be bought directly from local fishermen.
