Taal Lake: One of the 12 Most Beautiful Lakes in the World
Despite the recent volcanic activity and the fish kill phenomenon, Taal Lake was included in Yahoo Travel‘s list of the 12 most beautiful lakes in the world, the others being: Lake Malawi (Malawi), Peyto Lake (Alberta, Canada), Crater Lake (Oregon, USA), Lake Atitlan (Guatemala), Loch Lomond (Scotland), Lake Garda (Italy), Lake Annecy (France), Plitvice Lake (Croatia), Lake Nakuru (Kenya), Lake Matheson (New Zealand), and Lake Bled (Slovenia).
Located 37.28 miles south of Manila, Taal Lake is considered as the deepest lake in the Philippines, with a depth of 564 feet. It also cradles one of the world’s smallest and most active volcanoes, yet stunningly beautiful- Taal Volcano. This attraction was included in Patricia Schultz best selling travel book, 1,000 places to visit before you die, where it was listed in the 593rd spot.
It also serves as home to endemic species such as the maliputo and the tawilis fish.
